From Janis: I particularly wanted Bill’s participation because I’ve admired his guitar playing ever since we met. Influenced by everyone from Stravinsky to Leo Kottke, he’d been my friend Kathy Mattea’s mainstay guitarist for years, and when I stopped touring with a band for a while, Kathy quickly asked Randy Leago, Rick Blackwell, and Jim Brock if they’d back her up on tour. When I wandered into a large rehearsal studio to say hello to everyone, it was very odd to see “my band” playing with a different singer, and a guitarist who wasn’t me!

Disconcerting, to say the least. And enjoyable to the max.

That had to be a good twenty years ago, if not more, and Bill’s just gotten better. I’m so proud to have him as part of this project!

BETTER TIMES WILL COME
(Janis Ian)

Better times, better times will come.
Better times, better times will come.
When this world learns to live as one,
oh, better times will come

When we greet each dawn without fear
knowing loved ones soon will be near
When the winds of war
cannot blow any more
Oh, better times will come

CHORUS

Though we live each day as our last
we know someday soon it will pass
We will dance, we will sing
in that never-ending spring
Oh, better times will come

CHORUS
