From Janis: I had the good fortune to meet Carl Marsh on one of his first Nashville sessions, and loved him from that moment on. Listening to him take my ideas for “The Mission” from a draft orchestral score to a keyboard orchestra was one of the better moments in my musical life. (You can hear it on the Revenge album.) The list of artists he’s worked with is almost as impressive as Steve Gadd’s, and he’s brilliant and humble – always a winning combination. I’m proud to have him here with his interpretation of “Better Times Will Come”.

In Carl’s own words: “Yes, those are 3 trombones and a tuba at the beginning. And I’ll let you in on the metaphor: I was thinking about how divided and diametrically opposed society is, at the moment, and chose to modulate from C to F# majors, two diametrically opposed keys that could share the same melody….nerdy composer stuff!” Yes!! The world needs more “nerdy composers”!

Special thanks to Steven May of BreviT for creating this gorgeous, moving video as well. Look up his own version here, check his Facebook site, and some of his website designs.

BETTER TIMES WILL COME
(Janis Ian)

Better times, better times will come.
Better times, better times will come.
When this world learns to live as one,
oh, better times will come

When we greet each dawn without fear
knowing loved ones soon will be near
When the winds of war
cannot blow any more
Oh, better times will come

CHORUS

Though we live each day as our last
we know someday soon it will pass
We will dance, we will sing
in that never-ending spring
Oh, better times will come

CHORUS
