From Janis: Aspiring singer-songwriters from Myanmar, James and Myat are (in their own words) “amateur musicians who are willing to give what they can in times of loneliness.” Both high school juniors, they’ve adapted “Better Times Will Come” to the Burmese language, making this our 11th spoken language adaptation. (If you count sign language adaptations, it’s 15 all together.) They created this video under difficult conditions, with limited access to equipment and the Internet.

Again quoting them, James “dreams of involvement in the music industry one day and is currently making active efforts to reach that goal” while Myat “is simply waiting to leave high school behind and pursue higher education. She is still open to exploring her interests and abilities, so she chooses to start with music.”

Special thanks to Steve Wagenseller for facilitating this part of the project!

(Janis Ian)

Better times, better times will come.
Better times, better times will come.
When this world learns to live as one,
oh, better times will come

When we greet each dawn without fear
knowing loved ones soon will be near
When the winds of war
cannot blow any more
Oh, better times will come

Though we live each day as our last
we know someday soon it will pass
We will dance, we will sing
in that never-ending spring
Oh, better times will come
