Watch Janis, Neil, and Ryan Adams performing on BBC television’s Songwriter’s Circle.
From Janis: When the producer of BBC’s “Songwriter’s Circle” asked if I’d join Neil Finn for a show, I was thrilled. I’d loved Split Enz, and later Crowded House. “Try Whistling This” is a great album AND a great title. Neil himself had a reputation for being not just a solid singer, writer, and guitarist of note, but a decent and easy-going fellow. Despite a few hiccups that had nothing to do with either of us (or the BBC staff!), it was a great experience for me.
When I invited Neil to this project, he politely responded that his hands were full with finishing up a new album, writing projects, and baby-sitting grandchildren. So imagine my surprise when an mp3 arrived out of the blue, with a note from Neil saying “It’s a lovely intimate performance from you so I just played along with your recording and tried to make it feel like we were in the same room ..hope you like it.” As though I wouldn’t…
BETTER TIMES WILL COME
(Janis Ian)
Better times, better times will come.
Better times, better times will come.
When this world learns to live as one,
oh, better times will come
When we greet each dawn without fear
knowing loved ones soon will be near
When the winds of war
cannot blow any more
Oh, better times will come
CHORUS
Though we live each day as our last
we know someday soon it will pass
We will dance, we will sing
in that never-ending spring
Oh, better times will come
CHORUS
