From Janis: I met Sam when he played bass at a live show with Janey Street, and he blew me away. So when I went backstage to say hello, I was stunned to hear him say “Oh, the regular bass player couldn’t make it so I sat in. Bass isn’t really my instrument.” Apparently, everything is Sam’s instrument. We had breakfast a few weeks later and really enjoyed it, so we set up a regular morning meal at a local Nashville restaurant and traded new songs, recordings, gossip. Sam’s one of those people you can get deep with. He’s also one of those people who doesn’t demand it. Since we met, his songs have been recorded by Willie Nelson, Ronnie Milsap, and Clifford Curry. The only reason I’m not envious is because in addition to being one of the most talented people I know, he’s also one of the nicest. Doesn’t get much better than that!
BETTER TIMES WILL COME
(Janis Ian)
Better times, better times will come.
Better times, better times will come.
When this world learns to live as one,
oh, better times will come
When we greet each dawn without fear
knowing loved ones soon will be near
When the winds of war
cannot blow any more
Oh, better times will come
CHORUS
Though we live each day as our last
we know someday soon it will pass
We will dance, we will sing
in that never-ending spring
Oh, better times will come
CHORUS
