From Janis: Here’s Katrien Verheijden, joining us from the Netherlands with her own adaptation of “Better Times Will Come”. We met in 2017, when she began working on a beautiful album of my work, Echo’s In Mijn Hoofd (“Echos in My Head”). Along with guitarist Jeroen Koning and double bassist Fons Toonen (both featured here as well), she re-imagined thirteen of my songs, eight of them with brand-new Dutch translations. We also did two duets as part of it, and the album’s success made me so proud that my work is still recognized in the Netherlands, a place I’ve always loved. So of course, it was only natural to invite her to this project!
BETERE TIJDEN (Better Times Will Come)
Nu ons leven totaal is ontwricht
Zoek ik hoop op een nieuw evenwicht
Met dans en met zang
leven wij een lente lang
breken betere tijden aan
BETTER TIMES WILL COME (Janis Ian) direct English translation
A new day, a new day is dawning
A new time, a new time is dawning
If we learn to understand each other,
better times are coming
When the morning breathes in me again
and I’m able to see you again, I am free
When the storm has blown
that reflects the silence
better times arrive
Now that our lives are completely disrupted
I search for hope in a new balance
With dancing and singing
We live a spring-length
Better times are coming
